Gangale's Top 50 Space Music Hits

In response to the "Fabulous Forty of Space Law" list of space music produced by the staff, faculty, alumni and students of the UNL Space, Cyber and Telecommunications Law program in August 2014, I present my personal top fifty favorites. The one rule that I observed in compiling this list from the 100-CD collection is that I selected five songs from every group of ten CDs. This ensured that my selection was no more biased with respect to historical time than is the collection as a whole (the 21st century is over-represented).

I made no attempt to balance this list with respect to culture or national origin. It can be noted that 13 of the 50 tracks, or about one-quarter of the list, are Russian; this can be viewed as something of an over-representation given that Russian songs account for 16 percent of the 100-CD collection, but on the other hand it may be that many Soviet-era songs have yet to make their way onto the Internet. In any case, I believe that it is safe to say that the importance of Soviet and Russian contributions to space exploration exceed 16 percent of the total effort of humankind, and to the culture of space exploration.
